ABOUT US

CREATING A WELCOMING REGION

What is a LIP?

Local Immigration Partnerships (LIPs) are planning bodies through which Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) funds and supports the development of community-based partnerships to address the needs of newcomers. The main objective of the LIPs is to strive to engage a wide variety of stakeholders in a focused strategic planning process to strengthen welcoming communities for newcomers, which promotes their success in Canada. While the newcomer serving sector is a key collaborator, other partners include employers, school boards, libraries, health agencies, boards of trade, various government representatives, professional associations, ethno-cultural and faith-based organizations.

History of our LIP

Fredericton’s Local Immigration Partnership (FLIP) was formed in May 2015 by the Fredericton community with the support of IRCC. Led by Ignite, FLIP’s purpose was to establish a welcoming and inclusive community through multi-level collaboration. As of August 2023, FLIP has expanded to cover all 14 entities within the Capital Region and has been rebranded as Capital Region Integration Network to reflect this change. Our purpose has also expanded to establish welcoming and inclusive communities throughout the region, and thereby the Capital Region as a whole!

Vision

The Capital Region Integration Network engages stakeholders and community partners to increase awareness, strengthen capacity, and foster collaboration to better meet the needs of newcomers.

Mandate

Engage diverse council members with experience in the settlement and integration of newcomers.

Strengthen the region’s capacity to welcome newcomers and improve integration by fostering a welcoming community.

Assess the needs of the community and its newcomers to identify gaps in service.

Align with partners and stakeholders to develop and implement strategies and action plans.

Structure

The advisory council of the Capital Region Integration Network, consisting of a broad range of stakeholders. They are responsible for developing a coordinated, comprehensive, and strategic approach to the settlement of newcomers based on the needs of the Capital Region.

Immigrant Advisory Council (IAC)

This advisory council consists of members born outside of Canada who are now living in the Capital Region, representing a diverse cross-section of lived experience. Working in conjunction with the NPC, they provide guidance and feedback to ensure that immigrant perspectives always inform the work and decisions of the Capital Region Integration Network.

Networks

Based on the priorities identified by the NPC and IAC, networks will be formed to address each priority with an associated project(s). Using an asset-based framework, projects will be short-term, solution-focused, and show measurable impact. There can be as many networks as there are priorities, and potentially more than one project per network.
